Who We Are Immanuel is a family rooted in Christ Jesus. We are sinners who fall short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23). Yet we are redeemed by Jesus through His cross and resurrection. By the Word and Sacraments, we receive the benefits of all that Jesus has accomplished and are called God’s very children (Rom. 3:24-26). We believe that God has placed us each in our various callings of life to serve our neighbors and to be witnesses to God’s work of salvation in Jesus. We are a member congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
What should I wear? Immanuel does not have a dress code. Some people prefer to dress formally, while others prefer to dress casually. Wear what makes you comfortable!
When should I arrive? Sunday services start at 9:00 am. Some people prefer to arrive a little early to chat with others or to quietly reflect in the sanctuary prior to the service.
Where do I park? Immanuel has two parking lots: one to the west of the church and another north of the church.
Is there anything for my children? Yes! Both in the service and Sunday school. We encourage children to be a part of the service with the whole family. There are also activity bags in the hall leading into the sanctuary. But we understand that from time to time, it is necessary to step outside. There are changing tables in the upstairs men's and women's restrooms and in an unstaffed nursery downstairs. An usher or elder would be happy to lead you to the nursery. Additionally, we have children's messages twice a month. In Sunday school following the service @ 10:30 am, we invite children of all ages for different opportunities to learn about Jesus' love for them in classes suited to their age group.
What is the Service like? Services at Immanuel are Christ-centered, biblical, and liturgical (meaning that they follow long-established practices of the Christian Church). We believe that Sunday morning worship is first and foremost about God granting us His gifts of Word and Sacrament and then about our response in prayer, praise, and thanksgiving. The liturgy, filled with Scripture, points us to God's work to redeem us in Jesus and lead us into the world to share the good news. Services are usually around an hour long.
How do I know what to do? At each service you will be handed a printed bulletin with the order of service located in the Lutheran Service Book with the hymns, Scripture readings, and special occasions for the particular day. If you are unfamiliar, it is perfectly fine to sit back and watch until you feel more comfortable participating.
What about Holy Communion? With Jesus' words of institution, Immanuel believes that Holy Communion is the very Body and Blood of Jesus and a public confession of unity in doctrine. With the historic doctrine and practice of the Church, Immanuel practices close(d) communion. All visitors who intend to take communion should speak with pastor before the service.
What happens after the service? Immanuel has fellowship time following each service. We are a very welcoming congregation and invite you to stay for some refreshments. On most Sundays, there is quite a spread. So bring an appetite!
After fellowship, there is Sunday school for different age groups downstairs and adult bible study in the fellowship hall.
How do I learn more about Immanuel? We invite you to ask our pastor, the elders, or ushers if you are interested to learn more. On the attendance cards, there is also an option to request a meeting with the pastor or prayers. Pastor would be happy to meet with you at your convenience!
